Overview
The desert behind Giza is public land, which means you can ride out into open dunes with the pyramids silhouetted the whole way. The route runs about eight kilometres from the stables at the plateau's southern edge to a ridge that looks straight down the line of all nine pyramids.
Quads are automatic and take five minutes to learn; children can ride pillion with an instructor. We time the departure so you reach the ridge twenty minutes before sunset, which is when the camel photographs work and the limestone turns copper.
