Overview
Hurghada is four hours by road from Luxor, and the trip is entirely worth doing as a long day. You leave before dawn, cross the Eastern Desert as the sun comes up, and reach the west bank by mid-morning for the Valley of the Kings and Hatshepsut's temple.
After a Nile-side lunch you cross to Karnak for the hypostyle hall, then start the return so you are back at your Hurghada hotel by evening. It is a fourteen-hour day, but you travel in a private air-conditioned vehicle with a guide, and the driving hours are early and late when there is nothing else to do anyway.
