Overview

Somebody had the good idea of putting a café on a felucca, and it works far better than it has any right to. The deck is laid with low tables and cushions, there is a small galley at the stern, and the whole thing sails while you sit.

The menu is short and Egyptian: coffee made properly in a kanaka, mint tea, karkade over ice, and a plate of baklava, basbousa and konafa. Nothing pretends to be a meal. It is ninety minutes of sitting still on moving water with something sweet, which is a specific and underrated pleasure.

Afternoon sailings catch the good light; the last one of the day goes out at sunset and comes back after dark.
